Welcome to the Localization Certification Program Online Course Demo

The Localization Certification Program is a joint effort between academia and industry to provide you with an exceptional professional development opportunity, and we appreciate your interest. The program content spans a wide variety of topics and is designed to provide you with a solid knowledge base in the concepts and practices of effective localization and a keener understanding of the issues, trends, tools, and technologies necessary to be successful in this exciting industry.

The Localization Certification Program is comprised of three components: an online course, a three-day hands-on workshop, and a certification exam. Participants should expect to spend up to 40 hours working at their own pace to complete the online course readings, watch the chapter videos, and complete the sample quizzes.

Online Course Content

The course content includes 17 chapters of course materials organized in six parts:

Part 5: Terminology Management

Part 6: Localization Industry Issues

Supplemental Readings

The materials in this section provide a background in important topics related to international e-business. While the content of the supplemental readings is not included in the certification exam, this information provides helpful insights and is a good resource for localization professionals.

The Localization Certification exam is based on the online course materials included in the 17 chapters of this course. Each chapter is a lecture/reading in .pdf format. The primary content and the focus of study are the chapter notes/readings.

In addition to the chapter reading/lecture notes, most chapters are accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation that presents an overview of the chapter in a more graphic format. These presentations can serve as a basis for creating handouts and study guides for review.

A series of course videos are provided to accompany and enhance the chapter readings. These videos are Dr. Singh's lectures on the course topics and provide additional insights and information to strengthen participants' comprehension of the course materials.

The course videos are in Flash format and should open directly in the Web browser.

Sample Quizzes

A sample quiz is provided for most of the chapters. These quizzes reinforce mastery of the course content from the reading material. The certification exam questions will be in a similar format, so practicing each of the quizzes is an excellent study method.

Localization Tools

This sections presents an overview of some localization tools and resources. The material in this section is not covered by the certification, but rather is provided as an additional resource for course participants.

Communication

The RCE Online learning management system provides a variety of communication tools to facilitate our participants' progress through the online course: forum discussions, chat, announcements, instructor contact, and technical assistance.
