Community College Faculty Preparation / Adult EducationCertificate in Community College Faculty & Adult EducationThe Department of Education offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in Community College Faculty Preparation/Adult Education. The Certificate in Community College Faculty & Adult Education is a post-baccalaureate certificate program designed specifically for current and prospective community college instructors. Focused on foundational and pedagogical preparation for the effective instruction of learners in the community college and adult learning setting, the certificate is a 12-unit program consisting of three courses and a professional field experience. Participants will learn about the importance of the community college and adult education, the needs and natures of diverse adult students, curriculum development, facilitating engaging learning experiences, assessment, reflective practice, and the adult educator as a change agent. Units earned in this certificate program may be applied to the Master of Arts in Education, Curriculum and Instruction Option. Admission is required through the Graduate Office. Prerequisites
Courses Requirements for the Certificate: 12 unitsThe following courses, or their approved equivalents, are required of all candidates for this certificate. Courses may be taken in any sequence. It is desirable to complete the field experience as the culminating course.
Additional RequirementA maximum of 3 units of transfer credit may be allowed in the certificate program. A grade-point average of 3.0 must be earned for courses required for the certificate program. At least a B must be earned in each course in the certificate program for the certificate to be awarded. Courses may be applied to the MA in Education, Curriculum and Instruction Option, if desired. |
